Hull Jobshop opens to the public
2nd November 2009
NHS Hull and Hull City Council have joined forces to open a new interactive Jobshop which aims to help hundreds of local people into health and social care careers.
Based within the BBC Building, Queen’s Gardens, the Job Shop offers advice and guidance to people of all ages on finding and applying for vacancies with the local authority, the NHS and a number of other local employers.
The Jobshop is the first of its kind in the country, bringing together all the available vacancies within Hull City Council and NHS organisations across Hull and the East Riding.

A team of advisers are on hand to offer advice to potential employees and guide them through the application process. The Jobshop will also offer a ‘job opportunities by text message’ facility, allow visitors to browse a single website for vacancies and view a range of short films to find out what it’s really like to work in the local public sector.
Ben Elton, Job Shop Project Manager for NHS Hull, says:
“This is an exciting opportunity to help people find work with the city’s biggest employers. Our advisers in the Jobshop will provide career advice, assistance with completing application forms, and recommend training courses in order to help people get jobs in the areas they want to work.
And for those who just want to find out more about what it means to work for the local NHS or City Council, we have a range of resources which will demystify the public sector and showcase the vast range of careers we have available.”
The Job Shop was officially opened on 2 November by Tim Gilpin, Director of Human Resources and Workforce for NHS Yorkshire and the Humber. The launch event was attended by public sector employers from across the city including Hull City Council’s employment services and Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust’s recruitment team.
Anyone can pop in to the Jobshop to look for a vacancy or discuss their chosen career path with one of the advisors. No appointment is necessary, you can just turn up between 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.
